Moroccan Bath

A Moroccan bath, also known as Hammam, is a traditional bathing and cleansing ritual deeply rooted in Moroccan culture. This ritual is not only about hygiene but also holds cultural and social significance. It typically involves a series of steps, starting with relaxation in a steam room to open up the pores and prepare the skin for exfoliation.

During the Moroccan bath, special Moroccan soap, often made with ingredients like olive oil and eucalyptus, is applied to the skin. The soap helps cleanse and moisturize, and it is followed by a vigorous exfoliation using a coarse glove or brush known as a “kessa.” This process removes dead skin cells, leaving the skin rejuvenated and soft.

After the exfoliation, the body is rinsed thoroughly, and sometimes a clay or mud mask is applied to further nourish the skin. The entire experience is not only a physical cleansing but also a social one, as it provides an opportunity for relaxation and social interaction.
